Hawaii and romance are synonymous. There is nowhere else on Earth that hosts more weddings, engagements, anniversaries, first-time love encounters and celebrations of affection. The most romantic settings, experiences, food and music are all part of the fabric of Hawaii. Amorous traditions blossomed as tourism began to grow in the 1930s and people from all over the world are now passionate about these Islands and their romantic allure. It is this spirit that is the center, the natural focal point for the Hawaii Romance Music Festival.
Beginning as a Hawaiian celebration in March 2007, this annual event is growing to be a tradition in Hawaii for locals and visitors alike. Its appeal is that it is a multi-faceted festival, highlighting various forms of music from Standards to Rhythm and Blues, Pop, Jazz, and music unique to Hawaii all performed in some of the most beautiful indoor and outdoor settings, including ‘Iolani Palace, the Waikiki Shell, Hawaii Theater, Blaisdell Arena and the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, among others.
The Hawaii Romance Festival will take place from May 2 through 11, 2008, and will celebrate some of the most romantic music ever written performed by guest star entertainers from the Mainland and the Islands. The musical host for this 10-day event is the Matt Catingub Orchestra of Hawaii (MCOoH). Inspired by the great tradition of predecessors like The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, The Duke Ellington Orchestra and The Henry Mancini Orchestra, MCOoH consists of some of Hawaii’s greatest musicians under the leadership of Matt Catingub. Cherished proudly by local residents, MCOoH has attracted the attention of music lovers from around the world. It is definitely a “must” for travelers to attend a Matt Catingub Orchestra event while visiting Hawaii.
